YAL at the University of Washington
Our Constitution
We are a libertarian organization at the University of Washington that believes in individual freedom, the non-aggression principle (NAP), peace, and free markets. We believe the greatest threat to humanity are states who oppress their subjects, both “domestic” and “foreign”. We therefore believe that individual liberties may only be achieved through securing freedom from government control. We disavow collectivism as a political tool, as well as any forms of extremism or political violence to achieve our ends. We hope for a future where individuals are free from war, interference by states, collectivism, and other forces, and may have the freedoms to pursue their own non-right violating objectives.
We strictly adhere to the principles of freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and freedom of association. States do not have the right to control any individuals thoughts or speech, nor control any of their property. Furthermore, we believe that other ideologies like nationalism, imperialism, socialism, communism, fascism, etc. degrade the individual and make one the means, not the end, of all political activity. Nationalism forcefully uses individuals to engage in wars that benefit the nation, and destroys the lives and liberties of its arbitrarily-decided “national enemies” and “traitors”. Socialism forcefully uses workers to create a global proletariat “free from capitalism” and destroys the lives and liberties of “capitalists” and “counterrevolutionaries”. And so on—the result of which is a state of endless war which destroys humanity, breeds resentment and stifles liberty.
New Rules for Organization
We hope to build a group of individuals that advocates for liberty from state oppression, slavery, and the use of force. Membership is open to all individuals who seek to do just that.
For Leadership
Leadership positions require strict personal adherence to the organization's liberty-oriented principles and values. Leaders are expected to uphold and faithfully represent the organization's commitment to individual freedom, the non-aggression principle, peace, free markets, and freedom from state coercion.
